Gun on Campus in McCamey 4/3/08
Eddie GarciaCBS 7 NewsApril 3, 2008McCamey, Texas - The arrests happened just before noon Thursday.After investigators questioned the teens they found out, one of the boys broke into a house stole the gun.He gave it to the other teen who brought it to school to trade with the third boy.Authorities say all of this was done for a gaming console.Upton County Sheriff Dan Brown said: "Between these three boys we've had 6 felonies committed." The gun was not on campus Thursday but the boys admitted to investigators they did bring it to school twice earlier in the week.Sheriff Brown said: "We don't believe the weapon was going to be used for anything but being traded for something else."The sheriff revealed, that "something" was an X-Box 360.7th Grader Cita Molina said: "I wouldn't have done the same thing for an Xbox 360 but I thought it was stupid."Classmates gave us their insight on one of the boys.8th Grader Johnny Schafer 8th Grader said: "No I'd never think he'd shoot up the school, but bringing a gun to the school is pretty expected."Whether or not it's expected, Sheriff Dan Brown is taking the situation seriously.Sheriff Brown said: "Upton county sheriffs office we have zero tolerance for a weapon being entered into a school."School officials tell us there is no immediate risk to student safety.Darrien Baizen said: "don't feel 100 percent safe, but I don't think he's that dangerous."The sheriff says it's an isolated incident and encourages parents to communicate with their kids, to keep this from happening again.Sheriff Brown said: "We've got a lot of good kids here, sometimes they just use bad judgment."The sheriff said the weapon in question was a twenty-two revolver.
